Merry BanD Productions has partnered with Lassiter International Enterprises to produce a film based the 70's TV show, The Magician, which starred the late Bill Bixby.  After lengthy negotiations for the intellectual rights, a deal was finally struck, wherein L.I.E., Inc. will sponsor the film in exchange for product placement of the company's many product lines.  It has been rumored that the film version of the television show will be updated to reflect a modern sensibility.  One of the most notable changes is that the lead character, played by Bill Bixby in the television show, will be cast as a woman.

Apparently, plans include using a relative unknown for the lead role.  A nation-wide series of auditions will be held resulting in a lucky break for one budding starlet.  There has been some rumored backlash at the decision to switch the gender of the lead character. What the final decision will end up being is anybody's guess.

The short-lived television show revolved around a talented and wealthy magician who used his talents to help people in trouble.  Thematically, it seems identical to the recent remake of The Equalizer.  One can only hope that this new venture fares better than both The Equalizer remake and the original television show.
